1. New to UMMail

1. How to Access UMMail

You can login to UMMail via https://mail.google.com/a/um.edu.my or via https://gmail.com

3. Create a New Special Account
  • To Create new Special Account, please submit a helpdesk ticket. Click HERE
  • Under ICT Services Category, select UM ID option for the designated special account type.
  • Please make sure to include your HOD / Supervisor email and name in the detail column.
  • Please include 3 preferred usernames.
  • For RA, please include the name, IC/passport, alternative email, and phone number in the detail column.
5. UMMail FAQ

STEP 1
  • Allow less secure apps to access your account
    1. Sign-in to your UMMail.
    2. Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account.
    3. Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on.
STEP 2
  • For iOS devices, click HERE
  • For OS X Mail, click HERE
  • For Any Android devices, follow steps below
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Go to Account
    3. Add Account
    4. Choose Gmail/Google Mail
    5. Type your username and password (username = full email address)
    6. Tap Next
    7. You will be then redirected to google for authentication
    8. Accept the requirement to complete the setup
  • For MS Outlook 365 Client, click HERE
  • For other devices click HERE for the basic POP guidelines to use UMMAIL in your devices / email client.
  • For username please use your full ummail / siswamail email address(i.e user@um.edu.my / user@siswa.um.edu.my)
  • If you face problem please update you password and try the above steps again.

To broadcast official notices please adhere to the follow guidelines.

  1. Please post only Official notices.
  2. Do Not post any Advertisement.
  3. Do Not Post any Personal View / political ideas.
  4. Do Not Use Reply to or Forward to post, if you wish to forward official notices please send them as a New email.
  5. Make Accertain that your email contains you signature.

NEWS : GOOGLE MAIL AND MICROSOFT ONLINE LIMITED SERVICES

Dear users,

There are few news about Google mail and Microsoft Online Services blocked/banned in certain countries:

  • Google email service suspended by certain countries < Click Here >
  • Microsoft bans "embargoed" countries from Windows Live Services < Click Here >

Both findings can be searched using the popular search engine (google, yahoo, bing etc).

This also means that our student from US embargoed countries may not be able to access UMMAIL from their home country.

To recover your UMMAIL password, please begin with these steps:

  1. Visit our password recovery page.
  2. Enter your IC / Passport Number.
  3. Click Submit.

  1. Account Settings : [username]@um.edu.my
  2. Configuration via POP : Click here for POP configuration
  3. Configuration via IMAP : Click here for IMAP configuration

For Users who faces error when using mail clients, please follow the steps below:

  1. Change your clients password in UMMAIL
  2. Click here to unlock your account
  3. Enter your full UMMAIL address in the username (ie. username@um.edu.my)
  4. Try login in your mail client

  1. Please be advised that all email shall now be park directly to Google Apps Server.
  2. Universiti Malaya SHALL NOT BE liable for any loss or damage caused by the usage of Google Mail from within the UMMAIL Portal.
  3. UM reserves the right to give your email address to 3rd party for the University’s programmme purposes.
  4. Any problem arises regarding the account, please DIRECT your question to Google Mail Administrator at http://mail.google.com/support
